The Projects

There are currently four project areas which are covered by Help Save The Kids:

Schools programs: Our schools project is working with children that belong to the lower cast groups. It’s hard to believe but even within a nationality of people we find that there is a definite cast system put in place by their own people. Our program works with children that come from forced farming families and broken homes as well as those that have moved to the refugee camp.

Our involvement in the schools work on 3 different levels:

Level 1: Complete financial sponsorship and physical support. Meaning we work to provide all necessary needs for both staff and students, as well has being a present staff member at the school and performing teacher training exercises.

Level 2: Partial financial sponsorship and physical support. Meaning we partner with other groups to provide the necessary needs for the staff and students, as well as being a present staff member at the school and performing teacher training exercises.

Level 3: Physical support. Meaning we do not provide financial sponsorship but assist in the school during teaching session and staff training.

Hostels: This is our newest and very exciting project. As we have been working with the children in our schools we have come to understand just how difficult their struggles are. Many of the families trade their own children selling them into the slave trade and prostitution. Others have lost their families as a result of land mines being used and forced laboring until they die or are killed as a result. And some families are forced to relocate for work each year, taking their children from town to town, following the farming cycle; these children are taken around and not given an opportunity to learn. We have been asked to provide a hostel for these children to stay; it’s a great advantage to us as we will be able to work more effectively in their individual lives, giving them a safe and happy environment.

Our purpose is never to divide families so in conjunction with the hostels we ask that the families remain an avid part of their child’s life, and where possible we will provide at home care for those families that have taken children that are not perhaps theirs or finding it difficult to provide food even though they are working full time.

Medical: We believe that education and prevention is the best cure. We take for granted the general knowledge we receive coming from a developed nation. I think back to an education class that we taught where it was a belief that the rain would make you pregnant if you got your hair wet. Now you may laugh at that concept but it is actually a widely accepted belief, making women from all over where plastic bags on their heads to prevent pregnancy.

Through the teaching of primary health care and nutrition we are able to see dramatic changes in the health and hygiene of villagers all across the border. At the same time we will also provide practical medical assistance to those that require attention, but always maintain our efforts of educating them during the treatments. We make it a large part of the outreach to provide health and nutritional education that is relevant to their area and using accessible materials for the individual as well as providing alternative medicines during treatment that is either free or at the lowest cost for the individual.

Emergency Aid: Working in an area that has seen more than 60 years of war and indeed continues to experience conflict.
